French Gites – what are they? A gite is a self-catering holiday home, usually found in a rural setting in France. French Gites are the perfect setting for a romantic holiday for two or a relaxed family holiday with children, and like most traditional Gites in France La Vieille Source has bags of character and charm.

La Vieille Source is a traditional gite in every sense of the word, self catering accommodation found in a lovely rural setting. It consists of a spacious, light and airy open plan apartment set above the old stables on the beautiful Vaucluse estate. It has high beamed ceilings, wooden shuttered tall windows and thick stone walls to keep you pleasantly cool in the summer months and warm in the winter, along with the charming wood burning stove and modern central heating. The beamed and traditionally tiled entrance provides the perfect shade for outdoor dining next to the stone built barbecue. Opposite the entrance is the large gravelled parking area, more outdoor seating and a great place to enjoy playing boules, the traditional French bowling game.

 
Gites in France do not always have this level of finish or comfortThe ground floor entrance leads into the very useful utility area with washing machine, large belfast sink and WC. A wooden staircase takes you to the apartment. Gites in France can sometimes be rather basic, but not this one. Here you’ll discover a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher. The breakfast area with its exposed stone walls and wooden beams adds to the lovely traditional setting. The dining table seats 6 to 8 and the living area is ideal for relaxing with a book or watching the english satellite TV, DVD, videos, or listening to music or radio. You’re invited to borrow from the shelves of books and board games, and toys are available for younger children. French Gites don’t always boast up to date technology but here at La Vieille Source we offer free Wi-Fi connection.

French gites should have beds that you look forward to sleeping in at the end of a long hot day!Off the main living area you’ll find a huge bathroom with a large bath, separate oversized shower, wash hand basin, bidet and toilet, as well as a walk-in wardrobe. A wooden staircase leads up to the galleried and very  spacious mezzanine family bedroom overlooking the apartment but still retains it’s privacy. The bedroom has a large double bed, two single beds, and plenty more storage in the wooden wardrobe and tall chest of drawers, as well as ample room to fit in a full sized cot if requested. When more than four guests are at the gite the new fully sprung double sofa bed in the living area comfortably accommodates two adults.

French windows in the living area lead onto a balcony with views over the fields and old stone steps to the rear garden. This space is gated at both ends to provide a secure area for little children to play.

Gites in France really are the best way to enjoy a relaxed holiday to suit your own pace.
